Dear Leanne B. You have visited me 4 months ago, so it took quite a long time before you decided to give me one star. My SOAP notes say that you've liked the massage and you gave me $10 tip. In this case I cannot be defensive about it because what I did it was a standard procedure that I have learned at school. You had marked that you had lower back problems and you had larger underwear. It is my standard practice that first I ask, "may I lower your underwear" first, and only when client agrees I do this. Asking this after I'd pull it down simply wouldn't make sense, so I'm baffled about your story. I do a very thorough job massaging gluteus medius/minimus and most clients (if not all, so far) love the procedure. I'm just curious what do you mean by "unmentionable area". This procedure hits lateral pyriformis at most. The second part, about the breast, is shocking to me as well. What I do is I massage the sternum muscles (origin of pectoralis major and sternalis), going up to subclavius. At no point I touch the breast tissue. This is my standard procedure, so everybody is treated the same and it never occurred to me I should be apologetic about this. I'm sorry you felt the other way. There are a lot of massage schools and perhaps your regular massage therapist finished one that was big on avoiding any "questionable" areas, basically playing safe and unfortunately, which goes with that approach – mediocre. I am striving for excellence and, despite your review, I will keep doing what I've been doing. |
